CHE-YU HSU
Born in 1985 in Taipei, Taiwan. Che-Yu received his Master degree from Tainan National University of the Arts. Che-Yu then had won most of the major awards in Taiwan, including Taishin Arts Award 14th, Kaohsiung Award. The Gold Medal of New Media Art of Nation-Wide Award, and Taoyuan Creation Award.
Most of his artworks are adapted from reality, it could be news, history, or personal memory, from which he creates a male and a female animated model to play as the main characters in different stories, and attempting to state the fallacy of reality and virtuality. The inspiration is originally from a Taiwanese media company called ”Apple Daily", known for its' animated news. “Apple Daily" represents each news story exaggerated so the audience could easily absorb the content. Although the exaggerated animation does attract a large audience, the content is actually not true to reality, causing an opposite effect from the initial purpose. Today, while we are watching the animated news representing a murder or rape, we are expecting “entertainment” and “excitement” which have nothing to do with the reality anymore. Paradoxically, all these distorted messages in everyday life often replace reality and become part of our memory. What is the difference between so-called "reality" and "fabrication"? This is an issue raised by the artist.
