垂直潛水艇 Vertical Submarine

「偶爾畫畫、偶爾書寫、偶爾素描;但總是吃、喝和睡。」是Vertical Submarine 對自己下的定義。

來自新加坡的三人藝術團體Vertical Submarine,由Joshua Yang、Fiona Koh及Justin Loke於2003年组成,作品涵蓋裝置、油畫及素描等,足跡遍及西班牙、台灣、香港及韓國等地。團體名稱取作Vertical Submarine,即是對「顛覆 (subvert)」一詞抱持濃厚興趣,決定顛覆「顛覆 (subvert)」為「vert-sub」,再加以延伸成 Vertical Submarine。

進一步來說,過往作品也再再圍繞「顛覆」的概念。他們認為,改變視角能夠衝撞平時我們熟悉的認知與感知,而敘事本身並無客觀可言,多數只是一種觀點而已。作品積極探討影像、文字與物品之間的關係,嘗試創造新的意義結構,並且擅長結合文本與空間裝置,邀請觀者重啟閱讀經驗,梳理自身與展覽概念的關係,顛覆觀者的日常經驗。

Vertical Submarine 獲獎無數,三人於校園相識,2008年舉辦團體首展,2009 年即獲新加坡美術館 (Singapore Art Museum, SAM) 頒發「總統青年人才獎 (President’s Young Talents, PYT)」,自此共同踏上藝術創作之路。
